Britain justice now a thing of the past - murderer of headteacher getting new home and identity?
Q. So now it transpires that we, the British taxpayers, will be footing the bill for the killer of headteacher Phillip Lawrence? According to media reports, Learco Chindamo, the culprit, will be getting a new home, new identity, and intensive security protection costing up to one million a year. And we'll be paying for it! Do you agree that British justice is a thing of the past? And that Chindamo should have been deported back to Italy? How is it that the judges in other countries manage to interpret the same Human Rights legislation in a more rational way than the lunatics in our British courts? I feel so, so sorry for the family of Phillip Lawrence. NDGBILL - if you'd bothered to read my post properly, you'd note I NEVER mentioned 'rev [cont.]

A. Chindamo is a product of our society, he has lived here since the age of 5 and has little or no connections with Italy. He is our problem and we have to deal with it. The protection issue is a separate matter which I don't agree with and which the State has no obligation to undertake. Removing the Act would allow politicians to impose ever more intrusive and onerous legislation on us without limit. Before the HRA we could only invoke our rights if we had sufficient cash to bring a case in Strasbourg, now it can be raised before any UK court. British justice would be alot poorer without the Act. For other countries, this legislation has been in place for many years and doesn't raise the sort of hysterical reaction we have here. It's also… [cont.]

Can a US president nominate a Chief Justice to replace an active Chief Justice when a vacancy opens?
Q. Example: Could he nominate Sotomayor as chief justice and demote Roberts to a regular supreme court member? Ahh so the Congress can't diminish Chief Justice Roberts. The Chief Justice is paid more than the other Justices.

A. No. The justices on the Supreme Court do not report to the President. The President only appoints them (with approval from Congress). Once they are seated, they are there for as long as they want, until they die, or until impeached. Bush appointed Roberts to replace O'Connor when she announced her retirement, but before the confirmation hearing were done, the Chief Justice (Rehnquist) died, and Bush nominated Roberts as his replacement, then nominated Alito to replace O'Connor. *EDIT* - Congress can't even just fire him for no reason. They can, however, impeach him if he does something illegal. The process is the same as if they would impeach the President, except no Supreme Court justice oversees the trial. It takes a simple majority… [cont.]

What was the general reaction to Apollo Justice?
Q. When the games switched from Phoenix Wright to Apollo Justice, I don't recall a lot of outrage from fans. Was there none at all? Or did people just not care?
Asked by Bucky - Thu Apr 30 00:26:11 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. My first reation to Apollo Justice was "Yay!" because that meant that the Ace Attorney series was still going strong. Other P.W. fans, at first, disliked the idea of this random Apollo dude coming in and taking Phoenix's place. Many fans (including myself), also didn't like the fact that Phoenix went from being a lawyer to being a "hobo". After you play the game, however, you learn to love the new characters along with the old characters from the previous P.W. games! I hope this helped and best of luck! ^_^

The private sector appeals to entrepreneurial and risk taking personalities and people for whom earning a lot is important. The pubic sector appeals to people who want to help others and improve their communities and are comfortable with a more stable and bureaucratic environment. A hug. Godspeed.

What are criminal justice jobs that do not do psychological background checks?
Q. I am a criminal justice major and have had mental health problems so becoming a cop is pretty slim but what other jobs might I be able to do in the field with a 2 or 4 year degree?
Asked by Eviction08 - Wed Jul 30 20:07:28 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Most jobs within criminal justice do psychological background checks. That would include police officer, probation and parole, even any job within a police dept, like working for 911 dispatch. Private security may not, but then you would have to be UNARMED (due to the psychological background done for weapons permits). Private investigations? Bail Bondsmen maybe?

What's the difference between Court Judge & Justice of the Peace?
Q. I have heard that in the U.S. a Court Judge is appointed and a Justice of the Peace is not. I've also heard that a Justice of the Peace doesn't have the authority to oversee criminal trials, etc. Is this correct?

A. The powers of a JP vary by state (appointed in NH, elected in AR, etc.). In some U.S. states, the Justice of the Peace is a judge of a court of limited jurisdiction, a magistrate, or a quasi-judicial official with certain statuory or common law magisterial powers. The Justice of the Peace, or solicitor general, typically presides over a court that hears misdemeanor cases, traffic violation and other petty criminal infractions.
